"We've been called, through our music to reach out to the hurting," said Mercy Me lead singer Bart Millard.
It was through his own hurting and pain that Millard wrote a song that reaches beyond any cultural or societal boundaries.
"My father passed away with cancer when I was 19 and it came out a few years after that. "I used to write the phrase, 'I can only imagine' on anything I could get my hands on and thinking about him being in a better place. And wrote the song and got a hit record. We knew it was special to us but had no idea the impact it was going to have on people," explained Millard.
