“I used everything from cocaine to methamphetamine to LSD. Pretty much anything but sticking a needle in my arm. If it was there I would use it,” admitted Nate Augeson, former drug addict and alcoholic.
The dark world of addiction can last for years and unless something drastic happens. Addiction comes to steal, destroy and eventually kill.
“I welcomed death before I knew Christ. It wasn’t that big of deal to me. I had friends who overdosed. I had friends who had killed themselves that were drug addicts and stuff like that and while it was sad at the time it didn’t really affect my life.
Nate Augeson thought only of himself, his needs and the habit he had to feed.
“I was real selfish. I never really cared about anything else or about who else it would affect,” he says.
But through it all, God was patiently waiting for Nate, waiting for the right and perfect time to deliver him out of the life he’d created for himself, ready to deliver him into the life God had in store. The change would be drastic.
“It was on August 22, 2004 at about 9:00 o’clock in the morning,” he begins.
Nate’s Christian father in-law had a dream and wrote it down in a letter.
“He’d had a dream and wrote it down and told me that God wanted him to give it to me. And I thought, ‘Yeah, okay.’ I just thought that he was a big whack job.”
In it was a very personal message. His brother-in-law said it was from God and while Nate rejected the notion, the thought seemed to strike a nerve and later that morning, in a small church in West Virginia, Nate could no longer deny the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
“I don’t remember what he was preaching on but it felt like a sheet came down out of the ceiling and melted throughout my whole body and to this day I believe that I was cleansed of everything. I just started crying, went up to the alter and gave my life to Jesus. I’ve never been the same since. I’ve been sober since that day. God moved and He revealed Himself to me that day,” he concluded.
