Update the Look of Your Home! How to Improve Curb Appeal

May 21, 2019

Most of us are already updating our phones and computers all the time. Why not take this good habit to the next level and upgrade our homes, as well?

However, unlike phone updates, there isn't a button for home upgrades, and we might not be sure where to start.

But don't be discouraged! Here are 5 simple tips on how to improve curb appeal to help make your house look brand new:

1. Add New Treasures

Phone updates often come with new bells and whistles so let's add some new additions to our homes.

Consider replacing the current door and doorknob with one of a different style that better matches or accents our homes' exterior.

Also, do some decor to the front porch by furnishing it with nice railing, a relaxing porch swing, or a cozy hammock for warm sunny days.

We can also improve curb appeal naturally by filling our garden beds with a variety of beautiful flowers.

2. Paint A Splash of Color

Replacing our home's siding may seem like a great idea for adding curb appeal, but switching to full brick walls can get extremely expensive — potentially costing over $15,000.

Though, this is not the only way to give the outside a fresh design. Switching colors is a much cheaper alternative, costing between 1,700 to 3,900.

If both these options are out of price range, then simply giving our home a thorough pressure wash may be a more budget-friendly option.

3. Remodel The Roof

But how can roof remodeling improve curb appeal? Won't it just look the same?

Not necessarily. While plain black asphalt shingles are a popular option, they are definitely not the only one.

And if our roof is old and leaky, we may already need to replace it anyway.

There are several types of roofing that can make a house stand out. For example, metal roofing is a durable option. It can be made to look just like wood or something else if we'd like.

Tile roofing also works and can give a home a truly unique look.

Or, we could still choose asphalt shingles again, but this time pick the laminated version to ensure our roof stays leak resistant.

4. Upgrade the Driveway

A worn out driveway will not help in adding curb appeal. Consider resurfacing it to give it a smooth, new look.

If our driveway is gravel, then we have the option to pave it with asphalt or concrete.

Paved driveways can both increase value and help a home sell quicker if we choose to put it on the market.

Final Thoughts on How to Improve Curb Appeal

Adding curb appeal doesn't have to be an impossible endeavor. And, unlike a phone update, we don't have to apply all these curb appeal tips at once (unless we want to).

Rather, through consistent maintenance and occasional upgrades, we can master the process of how to improve curb appeal long-term.

Use these curb appeal tips to make the outside of your home awesome, but don't forget to take care of inside of you as well.
