![]() WELCOME TO LIGHT FOR THE CHILDREN,
A ministry of the Uniting Reformed Church - in Namibia, Africa.
"Jesus is Lord!" is a greeting which affirms that our Lord Jesus has overcome death and helps the little ones against all the big, evil powers in this world.
What is the story of children in your part of the world? In ours, it is for many children a story of missed opportunities: to go to school, to complete school and study futher, to have a happy family life, to eat a balanced meal every day, to develop their God-given potential. They can build kites faster than you can say "kiterunner" and they have an indomitable sense of humor. They are God-made. Children are never a problem; they are part of the solution! WHO WILL OPEN UP THE WAY FOR THEM?
|
![]() Our main area of operation is the same size as the country of Austria. People flock to the central town because of circumstances and changes - and end up being unemployed, hungry, sick, hopeless. Guess who suffer most? The children! What can we do? Care for them! And who will do the work? |
![]() How do caregivers do their caring? And who are they? We found valuable people right inside our empoverished community, people who trusted in Christ and saw their own God-given abilities even when things seemed hopeless, also for themselves. Our caregivers are full-time community workers, people with teaching skills, caring skills, counseling skills, hearts for evangelism, visions for community change.
IF THE WHOLE BODY OF CHRIST CAN REACT TO WHERE IT HURTS, THE BODY CAN BE HEALED AND BECOME AN INSTRUMENT OF HEALING. DO YOU SEE THE VISION?
|
![]() How can you help? We have received some unexpected help already, in the form of visitors and experts. We know that people are praying. We want to become an encouragement for people in similar situations. But we also very much need CONTINUED support from the body of Christ, worship that makes a difference. "For God the Father, genuine, pure worship is this: to care for widows and orphans in their need and to keep yourselves pure from the world." (James 1: 27)
|
![]() One of the ways in which God provides, is to help us teach people how to sustain themselves. With no agricultural land available for the town-dwellers, this is a big challenge! We experiment with gardening methods using little water. Further afield, we try goat-farming. Crafts-making. A little shop. It is a very long term process. And challenging.
"Do what your hand finds to do."
PRAY AND HELP THAT OUR HAND MAY BE STRENGTHENED IN WHAT IT HAS FOUND TO DO!
|
![]() We are not simply giving alms, we are for total commitment, covenant commitment, for methodical work - inspired from the heart, but done with good planning, monitoring and evaluation. |
![]() A banana or apple may be something really special for a child who sometimes misses her meagre meals at home - because there is no food in the house. At Light for the Children, we had been serving hundreds of thousands of plates of food the past 10 years, as part of our program. It's always a matter of faith, where we will find food for the next term - or the next day.
Jesus said: YOU give them to eat!
Want to get involved? Either pray with us, or have a look at our tab "Get involved." |
![]() Our programs and our results? > Pre-school > prayer > classes for school drop-outs > arts and crafts > physical care > nutrition > sustainability exercises > drama and song > family healing > play > worship > data collection > for 350 children between the ages 4 and 16 locally and another 600 further field.
And as for results..... |
![]() no recording light flashes red, but eyes of the brightest hue want the curtains to be parted urge the memory to capture moments, people, me and you; little by little, if we're shedding light the story will grow; step by step we'll know, on a new disk, indelible, against contrasts of deepest darkness was written: we've won the fight.
|
![]() Learn about the rural poverty situation in Namibia: www.ruralpovertyportal.org/web/guest/country/home/tags/namibia a> Our dilemma is that Namibia is classified as a "middle income country". This belies the bare fact that the income gap is one of the highest in the world! So the poorest are amongst the poorest in the world! We do not work with 'averages' (have you ever met one?) We work with people, children made in the image of Christ.
Who can make the difference that politicians find hard to make? THE BODY OF CHRIST! CLICK ON THE TAB: GET INVOLVED |
Thanks for accepting us as a contact, I think you are doing a great work! Praise God for this!
