Is It Important to Encourage Ourselves?

Instead of trying to figure out what is wrong with us, it is oftentimes more important to take a look at and magnify what is right with us. Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit came and made their home inside of us, when we invited them in. By looking at the reality of God living inside of us and by magnifying Him, we give Jesus the ability to increase in us, so our old nature can decrease in influence.

Oftentimes we may be tempted to just try to decrease and cut off things in our live in our own strength. But this does not bring lasting transformation, in most cases. We need God's empowering presence and grace in order to be changed. When he gives us the grace to change, the transformation is easy and natural. And it brings so much more joy to do things together with the Holy Spirit.
