History: Pastor Sonu’s ministry includes working with lepers and the poor. Often he and his team visit the leper colony in Rudarpur Amroha, Dhanora, and Rampur where they feed and give clothes many of these unfortunate people. A church was started among them with 20 believers and now over 220 people come to this service every Sunday in Rudarpur. Pastor Sonu has installed a pastor to take care of their needs.
Over the past 3 years his teams have started 127 house churches among new Hindu and Moslem peoples in the State- of Uttar Pradesh and Utterakhand. Each of these house churches has a minimum of 100 members and up to 500 members. Altogether there are over 5,000 members and this is growing fast. Non-members runs into thousands.
Pastor Sonu has led a number of large evangelistic campaigns with the help of his “Papa Jeff Mills", who is a British missionary/evangelist in Guatemala, Central America. Up to 4,000 Hindus and Moslems have come to know Christ through these campaigns, and because of this his team now includes 22 pastors in different areas that disciple the new Christians.
Each and every day his team are visiting new villages and towns and commencing new House Churches. These House churches in turn and also starting new House Churches. Soon it will not be known just how many churches have started, but pastor Sonu’s vision is to see the whole of Northern India saved for Jesus Christ. Some of these towns have been as far away as 800 miles. When their team visits these towns, at night they sleep on the floor in railways stations.
Pastor Sonu has not forgotten the teenagers in the area where he lives, and has commenced a Bible school for them over a period of one year. He sees future leaders and pastors coming out of this school to serve the Lord.
One of the biggest objects that is stopping him and his team winning thousands more are funds! At the present time they hire a taxi to take them from town to town and this is not really reliable as it often breaks down. A microbus would be the answer. They have 2 motor scooters which the whole team has to use. Naturally it would be wonderful if they all had their own and therefore could get to the villages close by. This is hindering they vision of winning more people for Jesus Christ.
Pastor Sonu and his wife Pinky live in a rented house shared by a Hindu owner who does not enjoy them singing songs or praying out loud. He has since banned any foreign visitors from staying in the house. This is naturally not the best of places and their own place would be more suitable.
There are so many needs that it will need a miracle from God to provide them all. Firstly, they need land. A friend of theirs has offered them a large piece of land in the village of Kalali for $20,000. This is really cheap as it would normally cost $80,000. But for them $20,000 is just a dream as they live on fresh air and miracles just to feed themselves. If they had land then they would need to build a church plus a ministry house for themselves and any visiting guest. The church building would be their main church and would house approximately 1,000 people. It would be a very simple building, but a very important one for holding seminars, conferences and evangelistic meetings. At the moment they met in the open air, but this is not possible during the monsoon season.
Oversight: Their Spiritual Father is of course Jesus Christ, but Pastor Jeff Mills has built up a wonderful relationship with Pastor Sonu over the past 5 years and Sonu looks to him as his “Spiritual Papa.” He may be contacted at any time on JeffMills@pobox.com
