17, For we are not like so many, who peddle the word of God for profit; but we are speaking in Christ before God as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God. 2 Corinthians 2

To Pray is Effective Mar 16, 2014

“The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” The Bible teaches us the power of prayer. We are to pray. Jesus said, we are to pray always and not to faint. Paul said we are to pray without ceasing. Paul said we are to pray always with all prayer and supplication. God answers prayer, very specifically and very directly. We serve the Lord in our prayers, but only if our prayers are in accord with His design for prayer. “We do not know how to pray as we ought.” How are we to pray?…was the question. “Lord, teach us to pray.” Jesus doesn’t say, “Here is a prayer you should pray.” Jesus says, “When you pray, say…” and then gives us this prayer. “When you pray, say this, ‘Our Father, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, give us each day our daily bread and to forgive us our sins for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us and lead us not into temptation.’” Prayer is effective because there is a record of its effectiveness revealed in Scripture. But beyond that there is the explicit statement of the Word of God itself that prayer is effective. In James chapter 5 and verse 16 it says, “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Further it says, giving illustration of the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availing much.
